CLE Seminar: AI Enters the Calling and Texting Space: Government and Private Sector Approaches to Combatting Deepfakes and Misinformation

The FCBA Artificial Intelligence and Consumer Protection Committees will co-sponsor a CLE on Thursday, January 16, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. ET entitled AI Enters the Calling and Texting Space: Government and Private Sector Approaches to Combatting Deepfakes and Misinformation.  The program will be held virtually via the Zoom platform.

The advent of artificial intelligence (“AI”) for robocalling and robotexting comes with both promises and risks for consumers and companies alike. AI technologies in the calling and texting space allow companies and organizations large and small to reach consumers, and even detect harmful calls and texts. However, AI technologies can also be used by bad actors to mislead and defraud.

Policymakers and enforcement agencies have been engaged on this issue, proposing new laws and regulations to address the use of AI, including the Federal Communications Commission’s AI Robocalls NPRM and NOI. At the same time, the telecommunications and technology industry has been active in this space, including by exploring technological solutions to detect the use of AI in calls and text messages.

The FCBA will apply for 2.0 hours of MCLE credit from the VA Bar.  This program has not yet been approved.
